Driver Disappears After Flipping Car Into Oncoming traffic, Leaves Car Behind

Orange County Sheriffs Respond To San Clemente Accident

San Clemente - While on an errand I came across an accident scene @ the cross streets of Avenida Pico and Avenida La Plata Thursday night around 11 pm.

I spoke with a deputy who would not go into much detail but did state that a witness had seen  the vehicle hit the center median and roll into oncoming lanes on the opposite side of Avenida Pico.  The driver fled the scene leaving behind the car which had ended up resting on its roof.  The witness was able to give officers a description of the driver that fled.

I was not told if drugs or alcohol plaid a part in the accident or even excessive speed.  It is not uncommon for drivers under the influence to flee an accident scene to try to avoid a DUI even though they can be charged for leaving the scene of an accident.

The officer stated the car was not showing up as stolen, so it is a safe bet the owner will most likely be questioned.
